Gravitational wave detection at three detectors allows position-finding promising regions of the sky. The three LIGO observatories are now detecting gravitational waves with a slight parallax that allows triangulating the source of the signal. This is a new application of well-known positioning principles used in radar & split-beam sonar. The potential? We can now locate precisely signal rich regions of the sky to accelerate further discoveries in astrophysics.
