What are the options for experienced learners?

We offer two pathways through our courses based on the interests of the participants:

The first course is a foundational knowledge course:

  • "Electronics, Sensors & Microcontrollers" for those with a Hardware/Software interest
  • "Computing from the Ground Up" for those with a Computing/Software interest

Note, there is no cross-over between the two foundation courses.  Students with interests in computing/software and in hardware frequently take both courses sequentially before moving to extension topics.

See our Gallery to get a taste of what is involved in each of the foundation courses.  (Note, while the gallery is geared to all ages, the topics are constant, with the sophistication, pace and depth of coverage at the appropriate level for the university classes.)

What applications do you offer?

We currently offer the following application tracks:

For those with Hardware/Software foundational course:

  • INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS
  • ROBOTIC GUIDANCE & CONTROL
  • SOUND EFFECTS (SFX) GENERATION & DIGITAL MUSIC

For those with Computing/Software foundational course:

  • LANGUAGE DESIGN FROM THE GROUND UP
  • ECOCOMPUTING

Either foundation course supports:

  • EMBEDDED GRAPHICS

New topics.  We are always working on additional topics and modules, e.g. FUZZY LOGIC & AUTOMATED REASONING SYSTEMS.  If you have a particular interest, get in touch!

I'm studying computer science in University. Which foundation course should I choose?

Computer science students are typically interested in the Computing/Software foundation course, and most start there.

Those who are also interested in a hardware related application such as robotics or embedded systems typically take both the Computing/Software and Hardware/Software foundation classes before moving to the applied interest.

There is no cross-over between the two foundation courses so both can be taken without duplication of topics.

Why are the experienced learner classes 90 minutes?

The longer format weekly courses (90 minutes) allows these classes to go more in depth on the topics and allows more time for discussion.

This means we are able to bring in:

  • quantitative element and measurement techniques
  • theoretical highlights and experimental validation
  • what-if discussion and exploration
  • discussion on applications and ideas

Our immersive masterclasses allow this to the fullest in 3-hour daily sessions.  Interested?  Let us know in the Registration comments.

What are the timings for the Experienced Learner classes?

We have chosen evening timings to accommodate university students with late afternoon classes, as well as adult professionals.  The evening timings allow time to commute into the course locations.

We typically offer three start time options:

  • 6.30-8pm
  • 7-8.30pm
  • 8-9.30pm

Feel free to write your preferred start time in the Registration comments.

Can you run classes closer to my location?

Perhaps.  For groups of 4-6 experienced learners, we offer the Private class option, where timing and location are selected jointly to suit the participants and assigned instructor.

Timings can be weekly or bi-weekly, days can be weekday or weekend, with a range of possible hours.

For locations within our operating area (North London, Hertfordshire, East Bucks), the prices remain the same as our standard course.

For locations further afield, please indicate in the Registration form comments and an associate will get in touch.

Do you offer trial (taster) classes?

Yes.  We offer a two-session block as a taster for University sessions to allow the student to see whether the topics and learning style suits them before commit to the rest of the term.

The price for this is at the introductory rate, pro-rata for the two sessions.

Please indicate this in the Registration comments.

I'm a student on a budget. Can I pay in installments?

Yes.  We offer an option of payment in two instalments, 50% each.  The first payment should be received a week before the first class in the course.  The second payment should be received during the half term before the second half of the course commences.

Students on the two-session taster block can switch to the instalment option by speaking to the instructor or sending an email to the programme director (reply to your registration confirmation email).
