Livia All Alone

Livia All Alone

By Jasmine Sheherazade Ebrahim, from the Livia Series

“Ow!” Livia moaned. “You stood on my foot!”

“Budge up!” Roxanne hollered. “That’s my guitar you’re poking at!”

“Hey, hey, hey! Roxy, you’re not bringing your guitar, are you?” Their mother, Mrs Bell, said wearily. Roxanne glared at her mother.

“That’s mine!” Brittany shrieked. “Stop it you pig!” Roxanne had grabbed Brittany’s suitcase and was throwing out the contents.

“Well actually, that suitcase was for all of us? Remember? And you were just cluttering it with your stupid junk!” Roxanne shouted. Brittany leapt forward but Roxanne grabbed her and shoved her onto the carpet.

“ENOUGH!” Mrs Bell screamed. Everyone looked up. “Roxanne and Brittany, separate. That suitcase is for all of you, but if you run out of room, you can always use the spare one, up in the loft.” Roxanne and Brittany both rushed up towards the loft. Mrs Bell sighed. She glanced around the house. “Oh God! This house is a mess! Your cousins will be here in an hour! Alexa! Catherine!” Mrs Bell shouted. Alexa emerged from her bedroom in jeans and socks.

“Huh?” Alexa looked up, taking her headphones off. Mrs Bell sucked her teeth. Catherine then emerged, fresh like a daisy: her hair blonde and fluffy, her eyes a bright blue and her clothes comfortable and in fashion. Livia stared at her sister.

“Hey.” Catherine said before walking towards the front door. Alexa replaced her headphones before stomping back upstairs.

“Alexa? Alexa!” Mrs Bell shouted, following her daughter upstairs. Catherine slammed the door shut behind her.

“Mum! Mum! Catherine just left!” Livia called. Mrs Bell rushed to the front door. Lavender then proceeded to pack her suitcase, Rosalind went to apply more make-up, Brittany and Roxanne wrestled over the suitcases and Livia sat down to watch T.V.

Then the phone rang. Mrs Bell cautiously walked over to it. She picked it up. “Hello?” Mrs Bell smiled. “Luka! Yes, yes. We’ll see you then. Great. And Zain? Yes! Of course. Drive safely. Bye.”

“Who was it, mum?” Brittany asked.

“Luka. He’ll be there in about 45 minutes depending on the traffic.

Livia’s Life – Season 2

Livia’s Life – Season 2 by Jasmine Sheherazade Ebrahim, from the Livia Series

Chapter One

Livia was sitting restlessly on the picnic-blanket, complaining every five seconds.

“Mum, please,” she moans. “I’m so bored.”

“Livia, stop it.” Her mother snaps. Livia sinks further into the blanket.

“Let’s just enjoy some fresh air, eh?” Her father pitches in cheerfully, his take on Livia completely different from last summer. “Come on, Livia, get that blood pumping!”

Livia groans. Dad shakes his head playfully. Mum starts fiddling with the picnic-basket.

“Ooh yum!” Livia grins, leaping towards the food.

“No, Livia!” Mum shouts, closing it again. Livia slithers back. She sits there, silent for a while before asking, “Mum? Dad? Can me and Lavender go off and play?” Dad looked at his wife. Mum shakes her head.

“Oh, go on mum!” Livia begs.

“Go on, Maya.” Dad smiles at the girls. “Look, how about Alexa and Catherine take them into the fields for a play?” Mum still looked uncertain. Livia eyes darken. Why would she want to go with Catherine?!

Catherine was Livia’s older sister, 17 years old. She was fourth oldest in the family including Luka and Zain, Mum’s only sons. Catherine was very bossy and she had a habit of shouting if things went wrong. Livia found her tremendously annoying and prim so she had no intention of exploring with her in charge.

Livia’s Life – Season 1

Livia’s Life – Season 1  by Jasmine Sheherazade Ebrahim, In the Livia Series

Chapter One

“Faster! Higher!” Livia grinned as Lavender patiently pushed the swing. Livia’s legs swung uncontrollably as the swing rapidly got higher. Lavender was getting worried.

“Liv, it’s getting too fast,” she bit her lip, letting go of the swing. Livia shook her head, scraping the ground with her foot.

“Look Lavender, I can get higher!” She called. Although Livia was 11, she acted like a child half the time.

“Oh, no, Liv, Liv get down!” Lavender cried, desperately. Livia wouldn’t listen. The swing was getting higher—and Livia was going with it.

Lavender ran to her sisters. “Alexa! Catherine! Help!” She yelled. Catherine was on her phone, swiping through her texts and Alexa was listening to music through her new headphones. “Livia’s in danger!”

Catherine immediately switched off her phone. “What?!” Catherine shouted.

“Where is she?” Alexa said calmly. Lavender pointed. All three girls ran to Livia. Catherine was shouting profusely.

“Get down here right now, Livia!” But Livia couldn’t get down. Alexa tried to hold the swing still, but it wouldn’t stop.

“I can’t!” Livia said, her legs flailing wildly. Lavender turned pale. Alexa held her shoulder.

Alexa stood beside Livia, telling her exactly how to come off. “You’re going to get your legs free, Liv, you’re going to jump off.”

Catherine, Lavender, and Livia gasped simultaneously. “Are you crazy?!” Catherine shrieked. Lavender covered her mouth.

“I’ll catch you. One, two, three—jump!” Alexa shouted. Livia leapt off the swing and landed painfully on the ground.

“You were supposed to catch me, Alexa.” Livia groaned, standing up.

“Livia!” Lavender ran to her sister. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” Livia grinned.

“Livia that was reckless and rash and totally immature and—” Catherine listed. Alexa stopped her. “I think she understands, Cathy. Right Livia?”

“Uh,” Livia starts.

“And you’ll never do that again, right?”

“Wait—”

“Good. Come on then, Cath, the others are waiting.” Alexa gently pulled Catherine away. “Don’t be too long. We’ll meet you by the food hut.” They walked off, leaving the girls alone.

“You scared me there.” Lavender whispered.

“Sorry,” Livia looked genuinely sincere. Lavender relaxed. “But oh my gosh! That was amazing!” Livia’s eyes glistened with excitement.

“Livia!” Lavender cried. “Livia, I cannot believe you!” She shook her head before running off to join the others. “I’m going.”

Livia sighed. She loved Lavender but sometimes she worried too much. Lavender was older than Livia. She was 13. Livia had always seemed to control their relationship, but times were changing. And Lavender was changing too.

Chapter one

Sam skips in, humming a Christmas tune. His wife and her parents stare at him.

“What?”

His wife sighs, gesturing for her parents to leave. “We’ll talk later.”

“Seriously, what?” Sam said.

“Sam, my mum, she wants one of our children,”

“What?! Maya, listen, you tell her,” Sam started.

“No. Sam, you listen to me!” Maya shouted. “I had no choice! They will be taken—my mother is very particular.”

“So, you’re just going to watch them get stolen!”

“No! My mum isn’t stealing them, she’s—she’s, educating them.” Maya trails off, looking down. “Sam, if our kids slip up even once, they’re gone.”

Sam put his arm around his wife, calming her. “Maya, dear, they’re not going to slip up. They’ll be perfectly fine, well behaved even.” He chuckled. “You’ll see, they’ll all have little golden halos above their heads.”

Maya nodded. “Okay.” She smiled. “We’ll be fine.”

“Well of course! It’s Christmas darling!”

Maya laughed as Sam lifted her up.

“Mum, mum, mum, mum!” Livia squealed, running into the living room.

Maya broke apart from her husband, pretending nothing had happened.

“Yes, sweetheart?” Maya asked wearily.

“Aunt Parkour brought her dogs!” Livia grinned.

“Oh, she did, did she?” Maya raised her eyebrows at Sam.

“They are so cute! Patty and Hattie, two girls. They haven’t caused any trouble—well, except for the poo they did on the rug, chasing little Rennie, chewing on Brittany’s best dress and sprinkling flour all around the kitchen—did I mention how cute they are?” Livia smiled sweetly before sprinting away before she could be told off by her fuming parents.

“Did that just happen?” Sam asked, bewildered by what Livia said.

Yes!” Maya yelled, grabbing her perplexed husband.

They marched into the kitchen before Sam slipped on a wet puddle. He cursed loudly, shooting up the stairs to have a shower.

Little Rennie skidded past, dodging the generous amount of flour tossed on the floor, before screaming loudly.

“Rennie!” Maya gasped. “What’s wrong deary?”

“Patty and Hattie!” She howled.

“Right. That’s it.” Maya brushed the flour off of her top. “KAREN!”

Aunty Parkour suddenly emerged. “Yes? Maya? What?”

A dog skuttled around the corner. A loud whooshing noise surrounded them.

“Yours, I suspect?” Maya pointed at the golden puppy, weeing on her kitchen tiles.

“Yes, Maya. Patty is mine.” Karen raised an eyebrow. “Was that all?”

“Karen Parkour, you know fully well that this dog is not allowed in my house!”

“Sorry, Pattie darling, but this lady isn’t allowing you in her house.”

Maya turned red. “Livia told me everything, Karen. The dress, the poo, the chasing, the weeing, the flour,”

“Oh! That! Yes, that was little Hattie. The flour I mean. A naughty rascal.” Karen smiled fondly.

“Listen, sister, these dogs of yours, have to go.”

Karen rolled her eyes. “Hattie, Patty, out. Now.”

The puppies scuttled away, whining profusely.

“Karen, now that’s sorted, I need to tell you something.” Maya quieted down. She led her sister into the spare bedroom wringing her hands. “Mother is taking one of my children away, and is refusing to negotiate.”

“I know, Maya. She’s already told me.”

“And? What did you do?”

“Charlotta is going. It was between her and Holly. Lily put up a good case. Carlie threw a fit until she got her way.”

“What?” Maya blinked. “You sent your child away?”

Karen shrugged.

“And Charlotta agreed to this?”

“Yes. Carlie made sure of it. Charlotta was dressed in her best today, blue silk, especially bought for her. Made her sisters go all jealous. Lily and Holly were full of spite this morning. I could tell Charlotta was smug.” Karen smirked.

Maya shook her head. “I couldn’t make them choose, go to live with mother for the holidays…”

“But wouldn’t you like to see the back of Livia?”

Maya froze.

“Livia would be put in her rightful place.”

“Mother was as strict as anything when we were growing up, Livia would never survive.”

“Good!” Karen threw her arms up. “Livia’s been on the edge ever since last summer. I can’t believe you let her get away with everything. She deserves to be disciplined. Maybe one of your other daughters would accompany her, Brittany maybe.”

Maya turned away watching Livia fighting with her sisters. Maybe her sister was right, maybe Livia should go.

Chapter 2

The kitchen was filled with a sweet aroma, noisy children and shouting adults. Livia was watching her family devour slice after slice of pizza.

“Livia! What are you doing all by yourself?” Catherine asked, hauling her younger sister up. “The pizza’s going fast!”

“I hate pizza.” Livia muttered.

“Me too.” Catherine confessed.

“Mum ordered pasta but she said I have to wait until everyone’s finished.”

“Oh Liv, join us, at least for a little while.”

Livia shook her head, fidgeting with the hem of her skirt. Catherine shrugged, turning back to the chatter and noise of the family.

Livia frowned; sure, she could see her box of pasta amongst the pizza. She stood up, marching towards her mother.

“Mum! Why is my pasta being eaten!”

Maya gritted her teeth. “Livia, the pasta isn’t yours!”

Making Animation from Stills

Hi, my name is Jasmine, and I’m 7 years old. Today I made two animated movies, The Basket (1m 18s long) and Snowbell’s Accident (2m 23s long) (Nov 2nd, new with audio!) Enjoy!

I made these by taking still photographs of the action with my dad’s iPhone and then recording an audio soundtrack (for the second animation). My dad then assembled the stills into an animation and layered on the soundtrack (see below for how). I’m working to add music to it — check again soon!

The Basket (1m 18s long) (silent film)
The Pets find a cozy basket. But amidst all the hustle and bustle, will anyone be able to take a nap?
